Though not a new trend, this tactic has gained momentum as the year winds down. It may not stop anytime soon, which is why you need to be cautious of dubious individuals posing as friends to exploit your kindness.

1) The bank app excuse:
“I’m having trouble with my bank network and need to send money to someone urgently. Can you help me transfer it? I’ll pay back as soon as my network improves.”
2) The family emergency:
“My banking app isn’t loading, and I need to send money to my mum for an emergency. Please, can you help me? I’ll pay you back as soon as I regain full access to my account.”
3) The health-related plea:
“I need money to buy some medicines urgently, but my app isn’t working. Can you send it for me? I’ll pay you back.”
