Record Breaking Mali Nonuplets Celebrate  4th Birthday

LAGOS MAY 5TH (NEWSRANGERS)-This weekend is a very special one for Mali couple Halima Cissé and Abdelkader Arby – their record-breaking nonuplets are turning four!

Brothers Mohammed VI, Elhadji, Oumar and Bah and sisters Kadidia, Fatouma, Hawa, Adama and Oumou will celebrate their big day on Sunday (4 May).

These adorable new pictures of the siblings, who also have a six-year-old big sister, Arby, demonstrate what lovely little boys and girls they have become.

Their individual personalities shine through in the beautiful snaps as they pose alongside each other, with their parents, and proudly holding up their Guinness World Records certificate.

One of the boys in particular grabs attention by pulling an adorably grumpy face in every single picture.

The children are the first known incidence of nonuplets surviving birth, earning them the record for most children delivered at a single birth to survive.

They also share the overall title of most children delivered at a single birth with the nine babies born to Geraldine Brodrick (Australia) in 1971, although tragically none of those children survived.

The Mali nonuplets will mark their special day with a spectacular party, with their parents promising it’ll be an event fit for celebrities.Advertisements

Speaking of her little ones, proud mum Halima, 29, said: “The children are all well, by the grace of God.

“They have grown so much since their last birthday and the change is clearly visible in them all.

“For their 4th birthday, we decided to celebrate in a grandiose way, as a celebrity would!”

The nonuplets were born in Morocco and finally went home to Mali when they were 19 months old.

Doctors had initially thought Halima was carrying seven babies.

The other two weren’t discovered until after the Malian government flew her and Abdelkader out to Morocco for care at a specialist clinic.

“We started with seven, and Allah blessed us with nine,” Abdelkader said.

Their five girls and four boys were born prematurely via C-section at a gestational age of 30 weeks. A ‘normal’ pregnancy lasts around 40 weeks.

The babies all weighed between 0.5 – 1 kg (1.1 – 2.2 lb).

Of course, their births were so rare they made headlines around the world. There had never – and hasn’t since – been a recorded case of this many babies from a single birth all surviving.

That did mean the birth had some risks though, which is why Halima and her babies stayed in Morocco for so long.

They lived in a specially equipped flat with a team of nurses on hand to step in when needed.Advertisements

But as you can see from these new pictures, the siblings are thriving!

We hope they have a very happy birth
