LAGOS APRIL 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A magistrates’ court in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Thursday ordered the detention of a 56-year-old pastor named Emmanuel Adebayo in connection with the alleged murder of Toyin Olatunji, 50.
Pastor Emmanuel Adebayo of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) was detained at the Corecctional home in relation to the passing of his tenant.
The prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 4, 2023, at 14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, around three in the afternoon.
The defence attorney claimed that after the two got into a fight, the defendant forcibly killed the woman by pushing her to the ground out of rage. The defendant lost consciousness and later passed away.
Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006, are violated, Sulaiman continued.
In order to hold the defendant in correctional custody while the Director of Public Prosecutions, or DPP, issues an opinion, the prosecutor pleaded with the court.
However, defence counsel asked the court for a postponement so that his client could submit a counter-affidavit in response to the prosecutor’s application.
The defendant was ordered to be kept in Olokuta Correctional Center, and the case was postponed until April 27 to await the judge’s decision.
