Obi Breaks Nigerian Twitter Spaces Record With 300,000 Participants On #90MinutesWithPO
LAGOS NOVEMBER 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party, has broken another record with his first ever Twitter Spaces hangout, #90MinutesWithPeterObi held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, which has recorded over 300,000 listeners 24 hours after the event.
The event recorded 330,000 listeners at 12 noon, Friday, November 25, 2022, the time of this publication.
The online event, which was hosted by Oraye St. Franklyn, a communications specialist and Nigerian publisher, was billed to hold between 7:00pm to 8:30pm. However, the Labour Party candidate was able to get online about 30 minutes into the event.
However, the event experienced technical difficulties attributed to Twitter and Nigerians called on Elon Musk, the new owner of the platform to intervene. Based on the yearnings of Nigerians to interact with Mr Obi, he extended the Spaces till 9:30pm.
Oraye, shortly after the Spaces, said: “With all the issues associated with the Twitter platform yesterday, people of God, #90MinutesWithPeterObi was a record breaker for a Nigerian Twitter Space and the number is still growing. It’s never been done before. It’s grace. It’s Peter Obi. It’s a new Nigeria. No more, no less.”
Obi, who has emerged as a surprise frontrunner in the race for the Nigerian presidency, spoke on diverse issues during the Twitter event, which was monitored by The Trent. He promised to solve the security challenges in the country, regig the economy, education, healthcare, and other matters of national importance.
The Space was co-hosted by David Hundeyin, Samantha Pam Dusu and Ibrahim Abdulkareem.
The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also attended the Twitter Spaces event.
Dubbed “hope of Nigeria” by his supporters, Mr Peter is leading the race for president in the latest poll conducted in rural communities in Nigeria published by Nextier on November 18, 2022. Mr Obi comes on top with 40.37%, his closest rivals Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) poll at a distant 26.7% and 20.47%, respectively.
This latest poll is the 5th major national poll which puts Obi as a clear frontrunner in the February 2023 election, which promises to be a watershed moment in Nigeria’s history. If the candidate of the Labour Party, a previously fringe party, wins the presidential election, it would mark many firsts in Nigeria’s political history.
