Nigeria Customs Officer Killed, Another Missing In Ogun Over Clash With Smugglers
LAGOS OCTOBER 28TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Suspected smugglers on Tuesday attacked operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service in Fagbohun village, Idogo/Ipaja, in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that while one of the officers was killed, another was missing.
The incident happened when the officers, who were attached to the Federal Operations Unit, arrived in the village for an operation.
It was gathered that the smugglers, on sighting the patrol team, unleashed terror on them, as two officers went missing in the melee that followed.
The lifeless body of one of the officers was found in a river near Ajegun Iyaloosa village, while the other was unaccounted for.
The Public Relations Officer of the FOU, Zone A, Theophilus Duniya, confirmed the incident, adding that some suspects had been arrested.
Duniya said, “The officers were on information patrol when they were attacked. It was an unprovoked attack that ended the life of one and the other one is still missing.
“The one that was found dead, his rifle was missing; but we can’t say for the other one that is still missing until we get to the end of it. At the moment, we have some suspects in custody in relation to that murder.”
When asked to identify the affected officers, Duniya said he would not release their identities until their families were officially informed.
Meanwhile, residents of Fagbohun village were said to have fled the sleepy community due to the incident.
