Nigerian Athlete Amusan Sets New Hurdle 100m Record In Rabat Diamond League
LAGOS MAY 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Nigerian and 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan finally picked up her first major victory of the 2025 season when she won women’s 100 meters hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Rabat, Morocco. on Sunday.
The 28-year-old hurdler won the race in 12.45 seconds after delivering a season best of 12.24 seconds earlier to erase the previous meet record of 12.51 seconds set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018.
Speaking after the race, Amusan attributed her success to what she described as renewed focus on technique.
“More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting. After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference,” she said
The victory now positions her as one of the major contenders for medals at the forthcoming World Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan kicked off her 2025 campaign with two consecutive fourth-place finishes at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets in May.
She also secured a victory in March at Jamaica’s Velocity Fest 16, although the competition was less intense.
Her win in Rabat marked a significant turning point after a disappointing conclusion to her 2024 season, during which she did not qualify for the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Paris Olympics.
With the hurdles event not included in the Doha Diamond League meet, Rabat became a crucial opportunity for Amusan to revitalize her season, and she took full advantage of it.
