NAFDAC Seizes Large Quantities Of Invalidated Imported Tomatoes Pastes in Lagos Warehouse
LAGOS DECEMBER The Acting Director-General of National Agency For Food And Drug Administration (NAFDAC ) , Dr Monica Eimunjeze and officials of the Agency stormed a warehouse in Lagos where large quantities invalidated tomatoes pastes were seized.
The operation for the recovery of the tomatoes was headed by the NAFDAC Boss herself despite the risk associated with such operation.
The Acting DG who made the disclosure while addressing journalists at NAFDAC branch office located at Isolo, along Oshodi-Apapa express road on Wednesday said the Agency uncovered large quantities of the imported tomatoes paste stored in warehouses in Lagos. She said some have NAFDAC approved numbers, while other don’t have any numbers.
While advising Nigerians to desist from consuming imported tomatoes that have not been validated by NAFDAC because of the health risk associated with such products revealed that investigation is ongoing with respect to the seized imported tomatoes.
“Imported tomatoes pastes that have not been validated by NAFDA were discovered in large quantities stored in warehouses in Lagos. Some of them have NAFDAC approved numbers, while others don’t have. These products have not been validated by our Agency. Consumers should stay clear of consumption of invalidated tomatoes pastes. Meanwhile investigation is ongoing about the product,” she stated.
