Maritime Workers Union, MAJAN Brainstorm On Ease Of Doing Business
LAGOS FEBRUARY 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)- Maritime Workers Union Of Nigeria (MWUN) and Maritime Journalists Association Of Nigeria (MAJAN) recently brainstorm to appraise the executive order on ease of doing business in Nigeria.
In a communiqué signed by MAJAN President Alhaji Tunde and General Secretary, Dili Utomi made available to NewsRangers, the roundtable expressed worry that the advent of Covid-19 has changed the world order which had led to dwindling finances , skyrocketed loan charges , reduced purchasing power of consumers and increased unemployment, adding that all these has compelled businesses to embrace technology and adjust to a new order of doing business.
It was in attempt to find a workable and lasting solution to the challenges that the roundtable was attended by representative of the President- General, Maritime Workers Union Of Nigeria, Comrade John Ikemefuna, the Deputy Secretary General of the Union ,Comrade Oniha Erazua. Also in attendance were the President of MAJAN, Alhaji Tunde Umar Daniah and members of the association.
The president General of Maritime Workers Union in his paper presentation identified the challenges of Ease of doing business and proffered lasting solutions.
According him, “Governments in most economies adopt or maintain regulations that burden entrepreneurs and this limits the entrepreneur’s ability to freely operate a private business.
“ Government policies , procedures dictate prescribed norms which often stifle innovation and impact negatively on vision in business
“Difficulty in Business registration with Government regulatory agencies such as NIMASA, NPA and the existing bureaucracy has in no doubt been the bane of Ease of Doing Business.”
In finding solutions to the challenges, he urged the Federal Government to ensure that regulation is used to achieve the goal of freedom to do business so as protect individual investments.
“ Government must reduce the cumbersome way of doing business in our ports and find a way to soften their policies in order to make business attractive to investors and foreigners,” he advised just as urged Government to reduce the agencies at the ports , remove the bottlenecks on the ports access roads and cargo clearance .
“Government must build infrastructure and ensure free flow of traffic on the roads and highways
Government should consider business reform aimed at boosting Economic development, he advised.
He commended MAJAN for organizing the roundtable and urged the Association and the entire mass media to do more in Business reportage
