IGP Decries Extortion Claims In Promotion Exercise

LAGOS JUNE 5TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Nigeria Police Force has expressed concern over reports of alleged extortion and unethical conduct surrounding the ongoing promotion interviews for inspectors aspiring to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.

PUNCH Online gathered that some senior officers were allegedly demanding ₦30,000 before granting promotional interviews to junior officers.

In a statement on Tuesday issued by its Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force stated that such behaviour undermines the core values of the institution and will not be tolerated.

The statement reads, “The Nigeria Police Force is gravely concerned about reports of alleged extortion and unethical conduct surrounding the ongoing promotion interviews for Inspectors aspiring to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police. Such behaviour undermines the core values of our institution and will not be tolerated.”

The Force also said the Inspector-General of Police, IG Kayode Egbetokun, strongly condemns any form of corruption in the promotion process and urges all officers to report any instances of misconduct promptly and directly to his office.

It added, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, strongly condemns any form of corruption in the promotion process and urges all officers to report any instances of misconduct promptly and directly to the IGP through the dedicated hotline at 09077120194 or to the Force Public Relations Officer at 08037168147.”

The Force reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout promotion protocols and called on all officers to uphold ethical standards to safeguard its integrity and credibility.
