Igbo Leaders Shun VP Slot, Insist Peter Obi is God Sent

PETER OBI 7

LAGOS JUNE 17TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Igbo leaders, on Wednesday, reiterated their aversion to the taking the position of the Vice President in any of the major political parties in Nigeria, a position they started drumming up early enough in the current political arrangement in the country.

But it comes as they threw their weight firmly behind Peter Obi, who recently emerged the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), saying he presented the opportunity the county needed at this time to end all the crisis of confidence besetting it.

Chukwuemeka Ezeife, former Governor of Anambra State, while speaking on behalf of the group, told his host on Arise TV breakfast programme, The Morning Show, that Obi had become the solution Nigeria was seeking.

He said: “It is the time of the South East, and South Easterners should not accept Vice Presidential slot. Yet, in spite of that, no major political party, except for the Labour Party, has an Igbo flagbearer. But the two major political parties that were the focus were not promoting the Igbo agenda.

“Nigeria, should be happy and I should say congratulations to Nigeria. Something is ending and a new beginning is coming. Nigeria has been playing politics without conscience, without principle and without consistency.

“I think God has taken over to dominate man’s mess-up of God’s design of Nigeria’s greatness and super powerdom and raising the respect and dignity of blacks. We said we did not need any of the politicians from the South East to go for the Vice Presidential slot. When there is no conscience in politics, there will be no principle and without principle, no consistency.

“We, as Igbo elders group, have principle and consistency. We don’t VP from our side. We want the presidency and since we didn’t get it from the major parties, and as it is now, we’re not unlucky. The PDP and APC have reached their highest levels. The highest bidders have taken everything.

“We’re not amongst the highest bidders. Our people make money from their sweat. We’re not regretting what happened. But so many things had gone wrong even with ourselves. Our leadership has not been clear and strong enough to introduce discipline in the behaviour of the political parties.

“You see, APC and PDP haven’t given us anything even though we’ve been sacrificial for the PDP. But we’ve got something from Labour and God knows what his plans are. The designs of God is for greatness of this country. The resources, manpower and materials God gave Nigeria is super-powerdom – not for these things we’re doing.

“If it’s a matter of the highest bidder, I think it’s over for the PDP and APC. Something else must happen. God has taken over the Nigerian politics to impose his will, to dominate over man’s mess-up of God’s design. This is how I see what’s going on. But, I’m not a prophet and I’m not even spiritual.”

Dwelling on the import of Obi’s emergence on the scene, Ezeife, former Political Adviser to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo in his first term, said it would bring a total turning point in the nation’s polity, and bring the unity and happiness that eluded it in the past.

His words: “We’re coming out of a certain politics – Something not relevant, not developmental and not positive in Nigeria – you can see Nigerians rejoicing. They’re not rejoicing because of making personal gains from what is unveiling. If Peter Obi becomes President, people will be rejoicing to see that Nigeria has come alive. Nigeria will explode in economic development and he can fix Nigeria’s problem.

“It’s not for the benefit of Ndigbo. Peter Obi is a gift to all Nigerians. The Fulani will be stable in the country, and not want to dominate everybody, the Igbo will want a level-playing ground, the Yoruba are already successful and this is the turning point for our country. Change is coming. A new Nigeria is being manifested. And that’s how I see it.”
