Hoodlums Set Benin Traditional Ruler’s Palace Ablaze
LAGOS DECEMBER 18TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Palace of the Enogie of Ukhiri in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, His Royal Highness, Godwin Aigbe has been set ablaze by suspected hoodlums.
It was gathered that the incident which happened a fortnight ago left some of the inherited artefects and age long traditional items in the palace completely burnt down.
Reports had it that Aigbe has been having serious running battle with some persons in the community lately.
The traditional ruler while speaking with newsmen said , in his last year’s attack, they almost killed him but his life was spared by God.
He alleged that ,some persons who were identified in the 2019 attack on him are also the same people that set his palace on fire.
He maintained that an official report has been lodged with the police authorities for Investigation .
He appealed to the police to ensure that all those fingered in the arson are arrested and brought to justice.
He said , his life is under threat adding that, he became the Enogie of Ukhiri by premogeniture and wondered why the frequent attacks.
Recall that, on the 16 of December, 2019, the traditional ruler was attacked by suspected assasins and was in coma for two months.
After his recovery from the attack , he has not been in the palace since then.
Few days ago, he mobilised some labourers to clear and renovate the palace for his return so that he could celebrate this year’s annual Ugie ceremony in the renovated palace before it was set ablaze by the unidentified hoodlums.
