Gunmen Raid Radio Station, Injure Guard, Cart Away Equipment Worth Millions
LAGOS AUGUST 25TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Suspected armed robbers raided Ajilete 92.1 FM, a radio station owned by Oyo State, stealing equipment worth millions of naira and injuring a 70-year-old security guard.
The attack occurred early Friday at the station, located in the Gambari area of Ogbomoso, which is part of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS). The assailants made off with electric cables and other valuable equipment. They also targeted the station’s power generator house, cutting armored cables, and ransacked the transmitter house.
In addition to the stolen equipment, the robbers took a motorcycle belonging to the security guard. The elderly guard was beaten, tied up, and struck in the chest with the butt of a gun, leaving him injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is still receiving treatment as of Saturday.
Kemi Ojelade, the acting head of the channel, confirmed the incident, stating that the BCOS management, led by General Manager Mr. Goke Adelakun, visited the station for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage.
The incident has been reported to the police, and ACP Adigun Gbolagade, the Area Commander of Owode police headquarters, has also visited the site.
