LAGOS AUGUST 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-The International Council for Ifa Priests has called on Nigerian, President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to officially recognize Ifa traditional religion.
They said the call has become necessary because of the religious and cultural importance to the Yorubas in particular and Nigeria in general.
Recall that in August 20 and 21 every year, Ifa worshippers and traditionistS dressed in their white attires and arm with while calabash walk the streets of Ile-Ife, Osun and Ogun state for the celebrations of the Isese Day.
Our correspondent, who monitored the 2-day celebrations in parts of Ogun and Osun state, noted that the Ifa traditionists in their colourful attires marched through the streets of Alaja, Ilupeju Dera areas, old bank bus-stop area, vesper, vulcaniser and the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ifo as well as streets around Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Yewa and Obafemi Awode among others.
Salako Kayode, the leader of the Ifa Temple in Ifo, Ogun state disclosed that the Ifa streets cannibals is a religion recognised by tradition to promote peace, the rich cultural heritage of the Yorubas, ensues constant prayers for peace, unity and progress in our country and usher in a consultations by the religious body on spiritual and other issues.
Meanwhile, the grand finale for the celebrations, where dogs will be slaughtered to appease the gods in Ogun, Ile-Ife and Osun state is expected to hold in August 31,this year at the various Ifa Temples. This is said to be a day of elaborate dinning and winning amidst Ifa traditional musics.
