Court Prohibit Apapa, His Associates From Impersonating Labour Party Official
LAGOS MAY 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Apapa and Associates Prohibited from Representing Themselves as Labour Party Officials, Abure Confirmed as Chairman by Edo State High Court
In a significant development, Justice Emmanuel Okey Aihamoje of the Edo State High Court has dismissed the suspension notice issued against Comrade Barrister Julius Abure by certain individuals claiming to be Ward Executives. The case was brought forth by Barrister Abure and a group of executives from Ward 3 in Esan North East, Edo State.
During a lengthy two-hour judgment, Justice Aihamoje declared that the Ward 3 executive in Uromi, Ward 3, lacked the authority, as outlined in the Labour Party Constitution, specifically Articles 13 and 17, as well as the amended Electoral Act of 2022, to remove the party’s national chairman.
In Suit No: HUC/21/2023, the judge proceeded to impose a permanent injunction against Lamidi Apapa and his allies, preventing them or any dissident faction from removing or suspending Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman until the national convention of the party is convened.
Justice Aihamoje further emphasized that the purported Ward 3 executive, which had suspended the national chairman, acted beyond its jurisdiction as defined by the Labour Party Constitution. Comrade Thompson Ehiguese, the Labour Party Chairman of Ward 3 in Arueh Uromi, expressed his satisfaction with the ruling, stating that it put an end to impostors who falsely claimed membership in the ward. He highlighted that these individuals, posing as party members, were actually from Edo North and affiliated with the APC.
Ehiguese went on to say, “I take this opportunity to congratulate the Labour Party and the Obidient Movement, which stood firmly with Comrade Julius Abure throughout the sponsored crisis within our great party. This judgment unequivocally affirms that Barrister Julius Abure remains the national Chairman until the party convention next year. Our collective determination to reclaim the mandate of the Nigerian masses, freely given to Mr. Peter Obi and our party in the last Presidential election, remains unwavering.”
Bar. Aigbokhan, one of the leading counsels for the Labour Party and Barrister Julius Abure, hailed the landmark judgment, predicting its endurance over time. He stressed that any decision made regarding the nullified suspension notice would hold no weight.
He added, “The Court has made it clear that ward executives in the Labour Party are not authorized to suspend national officers of the party.”
Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, the Edo State Labour Party Chairman, declared that the party had been vindicated by the court’s ruling, which was delivered by the erudite Justice Emmanuel Okey Aihamoje. He reiterated that Apapa and his associates were merely power-hungry individuals, and their actions were in violation of the party’s constitution. Ogbaloi highlighted that Apapa, who previously served as the deputy national chairman and was entrusted with upholding the party’s constitution, was well aware that the suspension of the national chairman was illegitimate. Consequently, Apapa resorted to seeking a court order to restrain the national chairman.
“Today, the court has unequivocally declared that this charade can no longer be entertained,” stated Comrade Ogbaloi.
