Atiku Versus Buhari: Witness Alleged He Signed Presidential Poll Result Under Threat
LAGOS JULY 9TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The presidential election tribunal on Monday, July 8, heard a witness, Mohammed Tata, say that he was forced to sign the result of the poll with a threat that he could be removed as an N-Power beneficiary.
Tata told the tribunal, which is looking into the complaint filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the presidential election, that he signed the result under duress in his polling unit in Jugawa state.
Vanguard reports that Tata served as an agent of the PDP in Jigawa during the presidential election.
While being questioned by the counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yunus Usman, at the tribunal in Abuja, the PDP agent said: “I was harassed and intimidated to sign the result sheet under duress.
“I was told that if I refuse to sign, my name will be removed from the N-Power programme.”
He further claimed that the 700 votes claimed to have been won by Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his unit could not be proven as “there was no score because there was no election.”
The witness, who says he is a Muslim and believes in destiny, claimed that he does not care whether the PDP or APC won the election in his unit.
He, however, added: “All I want is that I need justice in my country. I don’t care whether my party won or lost, but I am not happy about what happened.”
He told the INEC counsel and the tribunal that he was not given a copy of the result because there was no peace in the area during the exercise.
He said he complained about the threat and harassment but that nothing was done to the culprits.
He was asked by the counsel to the APC, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, why he did not mention the names of those that harassed him in his statement on oath.
In his reply, Tata said he decided not to mention names for security reasons and for the fact that he is still working with the N-Power.
