LAGOS MARCH 4TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Global human rights body, Amnesty International, has demanded the immediate release of the Islamic gospel musician from Kano State, Yahaya Sheriff Aminu, jailed since 2020 on the allegation of blasphemy, for a series of audio messages circulated via WhatsApp which became public knowledge in March 2020.
Amnesty also demanded the immediate release of a self-identified atheist from Kano State, Mubarak Bala, who was arrested on April 28, 2020, reportedly for a Facebook post in which he allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad.
Amnesty International further demanded immediate release of Ismaila Sani Isah, who was arrested in Sokoto State in July 2021 after he was accused of making blasphemous posts against the Prophet Muhammad on social media.
Making the demand on its X handle on Friday, the organization said, “Amnesty International is again calling on the Nigerian authorities to free all those jailed or on trial over blasphemy accusations.
“Government must urgently wake up to its international legal obligations to respect and protect human rights, including freedom of religion & expression.”
