17 Teenagers Who Went To Fetch Die In Sokoto Boat Mishap
LAGOS MAY 11TH (NEWSRANGERS)-No fewer than 17 boys and girls perished in a boat mishap in the Dandeji river in Shagari local government of Sokoto State.
The incident, which occurred in the morning hours, according to the chairman of the council, Aliyu Dantani, when the boat capsized.
Dantani said the deceased have been buried according to Islamic rites after local divers recovered their bodies.
“About 40 of them ( boys and girls) were in the boat on their way to fetch firewood in a nearby bush when the incident happened as the boat capsized.
” Some of the passengers swam to safety while the search was ongoing when the bodies were recovered,” the chairman said.
A similar incident last year at Gidan Magana claimed 29 persons, mostly teenagers.
