LAGOS AUGUST 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-Nigerians yesterday criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s nationwide broadcast on his return from 104 days medical leave in London.
Buhari in a nationwide broadcast yesterday stated that Nigeria’s unity has already been settled and is non-negotiable, stressing that he was grateful to God and to all Nigerians for their prayers. The President also said all Nigerian have the right to live anywhere in the country.

Most Nigerians in their reactions were however not satisfied with the contents of the President’s broadcast, stressing that they would have expected him to speak on tackling of the nation’s economy, Fulani herdsmen and other burning national issues plaguing the polity during his log absent.
Reacting to the speech, group under the aegis of Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, faulted the speech made by President Muhammadu Buhari, following his return from London.
CACOL said the nationwide broadcast did not encompass the “holistic situation of our present situation and with due considerations for the divergence of opinions as far as moving the entity called Nigeria forward positively.”
The body urged the president to march his “words with actions” as that will demonstrate adequately to “Nigerians his commitments to his promises, for which Nigerians have ‘patiently’ waited to manifest.”
In a statement by its Media Coordinator, Wale Salami, CACOL urged the president to take “bold steps” towards resolving the crisis of ASUU, health, power and the recent attack of the anti-corruption campaign.
Another group, the United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS) on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s national broadcast showed he is disconnected from true state of Nigeria.
The group in a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Tony Uranta in Lagos said Buhari’s comment that Nigeria was non-negotiable made the group wonder if his return would add any value to Nigeria.
“His speech was devoid of empathy with the sad state in which Nigerians have been battered through hunger, terror attacks and a bombardment by mendacious propaganda”, the group said.
“Whilst one is sincerely happy that Mr. President is back to Nigeria after that lengthy sojourn in London, one is tempted to believe that he may not be fully aware of the realities of the country he left behind for over three months!
“It pains one to see that Buhari is determined to stand on the wrong side of history as regards the inevitability of Nigeria being restructured before 2019.
“It is evident from his broadcast that the single most important issue President Muhammadu Buhari recognises is the issue of our unity being “non-negotiable”, which is laughable because this country’s unity must be debated and a consensus reached by the leaders of the various political, economic, religious and cultural persuasions.
In a related development, President and Founder of Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun spoke on the unsatisfactory position of the health of President Muhammadu Buhari, just as he honorably advised him to resign from office.
Addressing journalists in Lagos, the OPC leader noted that it was now evident that Buhari was medically unfit to continue in office.
According to Fasehun, “Resignation is the right thing to do for a head of state that loves the nation. When the head is bad, the entire body is bad.
“Nigerians have been praying for him for the past three months but it is now clear that his personal health is more important to him than power.
“It is unfortunate that Nigerian lawyers are not giving proper advice on Buhari’s illness. They are not giving legal education to Nigerian people. They are not defending the Constitution as it should be defended. They just allowed Nigerians to ponder with their legal illiteracy by keeping quiet.”
Faulting the attitude of Nigerian doctors for keeping quiet over Buhari’s health, he said, “I am a medical doctor and I wonder what British doctors have been doing and we Nigerians allow things to go on as if nothing has happened. Nigerians as a whole forget that it is not the day he is discharged that he will start work. He would be given time for recuperation.
“If he has been ill for four months, British doctors are not so careless as not to give time for recuperation. This can only be tolerated in Nigeria. Presidents in other countries would have resigned without waiting for the people to protest. There is a cabal that got together to ensure he does not resign but stay put in office.
‘’Many practicing Nigerian doctors and I studied in Britain with those treating him and we attended same class and we use to beat them in class. They are not better than us”.
Also reacting to the speech, a journalist and social media commentator, Fejiro Oliver reminded the resident that Nigerian biggest challenge did not lie Nnamdi Kanu or agitation groups but hunger that he plunged the land into.
“You didn’t address how you will steer us out of this present crisis, but ended up giving us tales on Ojukwu and the unity agenda. Ojukwu is dead, so we can’t even confirm your story. In your speech, the only people that benefited are IPOB members whom you have internationally recognized again instead of Nigeria. I goofed big time campaigning for you. This is no speech Sir,” he stated
