COVID-19: Obi Extends Palliatives To More Hospitals

LAGOS MAY 11TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has continued to reach out to those he described as the most vulnerable people in the society in this period of Coronavirus pandemic, by donating relief materials to them through churches and hospitals.

Obi, who was represented by former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra State, Prof Stella Okunna, on Monday, May 4, 2020, handed over relief materials worth millions of naira to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka and Annunciation Specialist Hospital, Enugu. He had earlier extended a similar gesture to hospitals in Anambra State.

Presenting the relief materials to Bishop Shanahan and Annunciation Specialist hospitals, Prof. Okunna reiterated Obi’s commitment to delivering adequate health care to Nigerians, especially in this period of COVID19 pandemic. She explained that Obi understood the sacrifices the health workers are making to ensure that people enjoy good health, which she said, inspired the former Anambra State Governor to deliver COVID-19 support to the benefitting hospitals.

“His Excellency Peter Obi knows that the health workers at all levels are the heroes and heroines in the fore front of this fight against coronavirus pandemic and that is why he is giving out palliatives to many hospitals across the country. He understands the sacrifices you all make and he encourages you to remain steadfast in your resolve to stamp this deadly virus out of the country,” Prof. Okunna said.

Bishop Shanahan Hospital was presented with 2,500 face masks, 10,000 hand gloves, 250 (300mls) sanitizers, 10 big cartons of paracetamol and an infrared thermometer, while Annunciation Specialist Hospital received 2,000 face masks, 8,000 hand gloves, 200 (300mls) sanitizers and 8 big cartons of paracetamol.

Reacting to what he described as Obi’s exemplary kind gesture, the Administrator of Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, Fr. Gregory Onah, said he was not surprised at such acts of love from Mr. Obi, as that was one out of the many good things he was known for. Fr. Onah, who said Obi never fails to help people, prayed God to continue to bless him and grant his good heart desires. With him were the Assistant Hospital Administrator, Fr. Kelvin Ndubuisi, and the Matron of the Hospital, Mrs. Nkechi Ezea.

In her words of appreciation, the Administrator of Annunciation Specialist Hospital, Enugu, Rev. Sr. Ifeomachukwu Onyia, praised Obi ‘for always reaching out to those in need’. Sr. Onyia described Obi as a man worthy of emulation. She prayed for more blessing on Obi as he continues to help those in need.

The delegation from Mr. Peter Obi, led by Prof. Okunna, comprised former Commissioner for Housing, Anambra State, Chief Patrick Nky Obi; and Media Adviser to Obi, Mr. Valentine Obienyem
